Banana Bread Ingredients

  • 2 to 3 medium ripe bananas, peeled
  • 1/3 cup (76g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda (not baking powder)
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups (205g) all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan lightly with butter or non-stick spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Mash Bananas. In a mixing bowl, mash the peeled ripe bananas with a fork until smooth with a few small lumps remaining for texture.
  3. Add Wet Ingredients. Stir the melted butter into the mashed bananas until incorporated. Then add the beaten egg and vanilla extract, mixing well to combine all wet ingredients evenly.
  4. Mix Dry Ingredients. Sprinkle the baking soda and salt over the mixture, then mix in the granulated sugar. Gradually add the all-purpose flour, stirring gently just until the batter is combined—avoid overmixing to keep the bread tender.
  5. Transfer to Pan. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, spreading it out evenly with a spatula.
  6. Bake. Bake in the preheated oven for 60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
  7. Cool and Serve. Remove the banana bread from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

  • Use very ripe bananas with brown spots for the best flavor and sweetness.
  • Do not substitute baking powder for baking soda; they serve different purposes.
  • Avoid overmixing the batter to prevent a tough bread texture.
  • You can add nuts or chocolate chips if desired for variety.
  • Store leftover banana bread wrapped tightly at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
