Ingredients

Scale

Cinnamon Roll Base

  • 2 tubes refrigerated cinnamon rolls (8 cinnamon rolls each – 351 grams or 12 oz)
  • ¼ cup salted butter (melted)

Custard Mixture

  • 3 eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup pure maple syrup
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cinnamon Rolls: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish to prevent sticking. Open the tubes of refrigerated cinnamon rolls and cut each roll into quarters. Spread these cinnamon roll pieces evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  2. Make the Custard Mixture: In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, pure maple syrup, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  3. Assemble the Casserole: Pour the custard mixture evenly over the cinnamon roll pieces in the baking dish, making sure every piece is soaked. Next, drizzle the melted salted butter evenly over the top of the casserole for extra richness and flavor.
  4. Bake the Casserole: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the casserole is golden brown, puffed, and a knife inserted into the center comes out mostly clean. The casserole should be cooked through but still moist.
  5. Serve Warm: Allow the casserole to cool slightly for 5-10 minutes before serving. This dish is best enjoyed warm, optionally drizzled with extra maple syrup or icing from the cinnamon roll packages.

Notes

  • You can substitute pure maple syrup with honey or a light corn syrup if preferred, though it may slightly alter the flavor.
  • For added texture, sprinkle chopped nuts like pecans or walnuts on top before baking.
  • Use full-fat milk for a richer custard; low-fat milk can also be substituted but may affect creaminess.
  • Ensure the casserole is loosely covered with foil if it browns too quickly during baking.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated; they reheat well in the microwave or oven.
