Ingredients

Scale

Ground Beef Stroganoff

  • 1 lb Ground Beef
  • 2 cups Egg Noodles
  • 1 1/4 cups Milk
  • 1 cup Chicken Broth
  • 1/4 cup Sour Cream
  • 1/4 cup Butter
  • 1/4 cup Flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Coarse Black Pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Onion Powder

Instructions

  1. Cook Egg Noodles: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil, then add the egg noodles. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 7-8 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. Brown the Ground Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, crumble and cook the ground beef until browned and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  3. Make the Roux: In the same skillet, add butter and melt over medium heat. Sprinkle in the flour and whisk continuously for 1-2 minutes to make a light roux, which will thicken the sauce.
  4. Add Liquids and Seasonings: Gradually whisk in the chicken broth and milk to the roux, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Add salt, coarse black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Continue cooking and stirring until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.
  5. Combine Beef and Sauce: Return the cooked ground beef to the skillet with the sauce, stirring well to combine and heat through.
  6. Finish with Sour Cream: Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the sour cream until smooth and creamy. Adjust seasoning if needed.
  7. Serve: Mix the cooked egg noodles into the sauce and beef mixture or serve the beef stroganoff over the noodles. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired and serve hot.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
  • For a richer flavor, use beef broth instead of chicken broth.
  • Do not boil the sauce after adding sour cream to prevent curdling.
  • Add mushrooms sautéed with the beef for a traditional stroganoff twist.
