Homemade Pizza Rolls bring together a delicious blend of chewy dough, melted mozzarella, tangy marinara, and savory pepperoni in a perfect bite-sized snack. These pizza rolls are easy to make from scratch, combining classic Italian flavors with a fun handheld format that’s perfect for parties, snacks, or quick meals.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm water (around 110°F)

Cheese

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Filling

  • 1/2 cup sliced pepperoni
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning mix
  • Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste

Condiment

  • 1/2 cup marinara sauce (for dipping or drizzling)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, active dry yeast, and salt. Gradually add the warm water while stirring until a rough dough forms. Transfer to a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic. Cover and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  2. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure a hot environment for baking the rolls.
  3. Roll Out Dough: After the dough has risen, punch it down to release air bubbles and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about 12×8 inches thick.
  4. Add Filling: Spread the shredded mozzarella evenly over the dough, then sprinkle grated Parmesan. Distribute the sliced pepperoni on top. Season with Italian seasoning and freshly cracked black pepper according to taste.
  5. Shape Rolls: Starting from one long edge, carefully roll the dough tightly into a log shape. Using a sharp knife, cut the log into 1 to 1.5 inch wide slices to form individual pizza rolls.
  6. Bake: Place the rolls cut side up on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Serve: Remove from the oven and allow to slightly cool. Serve with warm marinara sauce for dipping or drizzling over the top for extra flavor.

Notes

  • Make sure the water for the dough is warm, not hot, to properly activate the yeast without killing it.
  • You can customize the filling by swapping pepperoni with other toppings such as diced bell peppers, olives, or cooked sausage.
  • To save time, use store-bought pizza dough, but homemade dough will give the best texture and flavor.
  • The rolls are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven.
  • For a spicier kick, add crushed red pepper flakes to the filling mix.
