Ingredients

Scale

Dough

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm water (around 110°F)

Cheese

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Pepperoni

  • 1/2 cup sliced pepperoni

Tomato Sauce

  • 1/2 cup marinara sauce (for dipping or drizzling)

Seasonings

  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning mix
  • Freshly cracked black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, active dry yeast, and salt. Gradually add the warm water (around 110°F) and mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Cover and let it rest for about 45 minutes to an hour until it doubles in size.
  2. Prepare the Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the shredded mozzarella, grated Parmesan, sliced pepperoni, Italian seasoning, and freshly cracked black pepper. Mix well to evenly distribute the flavors.
  3. Roll out the Dough: After the dough has risen, punch it down gently and roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
  4. Assemble the Rolls: Spread the cheese and pepperoni mixture evenly over the rolled-out dough, leaving a small border on one edge. Carefully roll the dough tightly into a log shape, sealing the edge by pinching the dough together.
  5. Slice the Rolls: Using a sharp knife, cut the log into 1 to 1.5-inch thick slices. Place the slices cut side up on a greased baking sheet or lined with parchment paper.
  6. Bake the Rolls: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the pizza rolls for 15-20 minutes or until the dough is golden brown and the cheese has melted and is bubbly.
  7. Serve: Remove the pizza rolls from the oven and let them cool slightly. Serve warm with marinara sauce on the side for dipping or drizzling.

Notes

  • You can substitute pepperoni with other toppings such as diced bell peppers, olives, or cooked sausage for variety.
  • Make sure the water is warm (around 110°F) to activate the yeast without killing it.
  • For a crispier crust, brush the tops of the rolls with a little olive oil before baking.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, reheat in the oven for best results.
  • For a vegetarian version, omit the pepperoni and add extra vegetables or more cheese.
